Information Architecture
The Information Architecture is one of the key areas that need to be addressed when implementing an Information Management system. The Information Architecture will show you what information is stored and how that information is linked together.
Information is structured data and placed in context for a purpose, without an Information Architecture it is difficult to put that data into context.
An Information Architecture typically covers the
following topics:
- Metadata Model, i.e. what information do you capture about the documents / records stored in the system
- Business Classification Structure, i.e. how do you store your information
- Security Model, i.e. preventing unwanted access
- Locations Model, what does your organisation looks like
- Thesaurus, i.e. a controlled vocabulary
- Different types of information
- Exchange of information in case systems are integrated
